WAEE offers a unique, structured approach developed over more than 10 years of French tutoring by native French teachers. Our approach prioritizes oral fluency from the very first lesson, using a progressive 21-step framework that aligns with the CEFR (A1-C2) standards.
With small class sizes and a 100% DELF success rate, we provide a personalized learning experience that larger institutions often cannot match.
WAEE's method was built from the ground up based on a core observation: students kept making the same grammar and vocabulary mistakes because traditional teaching lacked mnemonic learning and cognitive organization. The WAEE method addresses this directly.
- Sound-first learning: Oral expression and listening comprehension come before written rules, mirroring how native speakers naturally acquire language.
- Progressive structure: Content builds gradually and logically from A1 to B2 and beyond.
- Proprietary materials: WAEE's own booklets, workbooks, and web app are designed to complement the method - not generic textbooks.
- Tiny classes: A maximum of 6 students per class ensures no one gets left behind.
- Exam alignment: All programs are aligned with DELF, TEF Canada, TCF Canada, and BC curriculum standards.
Yes! WAEE offers a free 30-minute assessment session. This lets our teachers evaluate your current French level, understand your goals (DELF, TEF/TCF, SLE, conversational, or academic), and recommend the right class and schedule for you. There's no obligation to enroll.

Immigration
To earn significant points for Express Entry (NCLC levels), most candidates aim for a CLB 7.
- CLB 5 (B1 level): The minimum threshold to earn points for French as a second official language.
- CLB 7–8 (B2 level): Earns additional CRS points as a second language and makes you eligible for category-based French draws.
- CLB 9+ (C1 level): Maximizes your French language points and can make a significant difference in your CRS score.
Immigration requirements change periodically. We recommend verifying current CLB requirements directly on the IRCC website before your exam. WAEE's teachers can help you understand what score you need and build a study plan to reach it.
TEF Canada and TCF Canada are both approved French tests for Canadian immigration and citizenship, but they differ mainly in format, scoring, and test style. TEF Canada tends to use more open-ended tasks, while TCF Canada relies more on multiple-choice questions.
| TEF | TCF | |
|---|---|---|
| Test Format | Mixes multiple-choice and open-response tasks | Mostly multiple-choice |
| Speaking and Writing | Usually has 2 speaking tasks and 2 writing tasks | Has 3 speaking tasks and 3 writing tasks |
| Scoring | Has own score ranges mapped to CEFR levels | Uses a numeric scale that is also mapped to CEFR |
| Timing | Generally a bit shorter overall | A bit longer |
| Style | Is often seen as more structured and demanding in open-ended expression | Can feel more straightforward because of its multiple-choice emphasis |
Preparation time varies based on your starting level and your target score. As a general guide:
- Complete beginners (A1): 6–12 months to reach a competitive score for Express Entry
- Intermediate learners (B1): 3–6 months of focused exam preparation
- Advanced learners (B2+): 4–12 weeks of targeted exam strategy and practice
Kids
Yes. WAEE offers AP French Language & Culture and IB French tutoring for high school students in Vancouver, either in person or online. Sessions cover the specific skills tested on these exams: interpretive listening, reading comprehension, interpersonal writing, presentational writing, and oral communication tasks.
WAEE teachers are experienced with the expectations of AP and IB examiners and can help students develop the exam strategies needed to score a 4 or 5 on the AP exam, or achieve a 6 or 7 on the IB.
WAEE is a strong partner for families whose children are in French Immersion schools or heading toward AP and IB French. Here's how WAEE supports these students:
- French Immersion support: WAEE reinforces the grammar, oral skills, and writing techniques that Immersion students need to keep up with an all-French curriculum.
- AP and IB French tutoring: WAEE offers targeted preparation for AP French Language & Culture and IB French examinations, including essay writing, oral commentary, and listening comprehension strategies.
- DELF exam prep: For students who want an internationally recognized French certification to complement their school credentials.
- Small group classes: With a maximum of 6 students, teachers can adapt sessions to each student's specific school curriculum and grade level.
The DELF (Diplôme d'Études en Langue Française) is an internationally recognized French proficiency certificate issued by France Éducation International. WAEE has a 100% DELF success rate and prepares students for all levels:
- DELF Prim: A1 Prim, A2 Prim (for young children)
- DELF Junior: A1, A2, B1, B2 (for school-aged students)
- DELF Tout Public: A1 through C1 (for adults)
WAEE's curriculum is fully aligned with the CEFR framework. Students practice all four exam components — reading, writing, listening, and speaking — using WAEE's proprietary booklets and workbooks, as well as past exam papers and dedicated oral practice sessions.
WAEE welcomes students starting from kindergarten (ages 5) all the way through Grade 12, including AP and IB French. Our elementary programs are designed specifically for young learners, using a sound-first, visual, and playful approach that makes French engaging for children from the very start.
The earlier children begin, the more naturally they develop pronunciation, vocabulary, and conversational fluency. Starting in Kindergarten gives your child a significant advantage as they enter French Immersion programs.
Government
Absolutely. WAEE's SLE preparation courses are available fully online, making them accessible to federal public servants anywhere in Canada — Ottawa, Montreal, Calgary, Victoria, or any other location.
Online sessions follow the same curriculum and deliver the same quality of instruction as in-person training. Contact us to discuss scheduling options that work with your work hours.
Preparation time for the SLE depends on your starting French level and the target level you need to achieve:
- Level A: 6–12 weeks of focused preparation for those with some prior French exposure
- Level B: 3–6 months for those starting from a basic level; 4–8 weeks for those already at an intermediate level
- Level C: 6–12 months from an intermediate base, or 6–12 weeks of intensive refinement for near-advanced speakers
WAEE's free assessment session will identify your current level and give you a realistic timeline for reaching your target SLE score.
The Second Language Evaluation (SLE) is a standardized test administered by the Public Service Commission of Canada to assess the French proficiency of federal government employees and applicants for bilingual positions. The SLE measures three skill areas:
- Reading comprehension
- Written expression
- Oral interaction
Each component is rated at one of three levels: A (basic), B (intermediate), or C (advanced). Bilingual positions across the federal public service require a specific combination of these levels (e.g., BBB or CBC).
WAEE offers targeted SLE preparation courses for federal public servants at all three levels, available both in person in Vancouver and online. Training focuses on the exact format and language skills tested by the SLE, helping employees meet bilingualism requirements and advance their careers.
